Mothers Day Flowers

Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday as it was originally known is always celebrated on the 4th sunday of Lent and traditionally young girls in service were allowed on this one day to visit their family. The housekeeper would allow the maids to bake a cake to take home for their mother or sometimes they'd take some eggs or a bunch of flowers from the garden or hothouse. The less fortunate young girls would pick a bunch from the hedgerows as they made the journey home!
